Tucson-based photographer specializing in high-quality images for business and personal use. We maintain a first-rate studio but are able to shoot on-location as well. We service Tucson first but serve the Southwest United States.
Jim Purcell grew up in a publishing family. Early on his father urged him to learn all aspects of the photographic process. Growing up he had two darkrooms to use! He was taught how to be a sports photographer and a news photographer.
He is published in sports, news, wildlife, landscapes, and social events. Right after college he developed the desire to be a portrait photographer. I bought my first set of studio lights in 1982. He used a 35mm for news and sports photos but kept a 4x5 camera for portaits. He also upgraded to a color darkroom. Still did news photography in black and white, but began using color for my personal work.
Computers and the digital world brought great change to publishing and photography. His switch started in 1995. He began the slow migration to digital photography. At first it was dealing with graphics in advertising. He started using Photoshop back when it version 2. But the photo evolution took many years.
Much later, working as a graphic artist and production manager in Chicago He begain to learn photo-manipulation. Working for Chicago Print and Desplaines Publishing his clients included models, agencies, fashion designers, high-dollar auction houses and most of the newspapers of the area.
