The home base for James Creek Outfitters is a family owned and operated working ranch. Richard and Evelyn Ott are the second generation of the Durham family, who have owned the ranch since 1951. The Otts raise beef cattle and hay.
James Creek Outfitters takes it's name from the creek running through the upper part of the property. The ranch was homesteaded in the 1800's by the James family, and is one of the oldest ranches in the area. Van James was an avid hunter, and he started the 100 plus year old hunting tradition on the ranch that continues to this day.
The goal of James Creek Outfitters is to provide quality, exclusive hunting and excellent service. To that end, the Otts book small groups for each season. Richard, son Ty (27), and a few other trusted guides, provide the hunting service on the ranch. Amber (24), Richard and Evelyn's oldest daughter, who has hunted since she was 12, has also developed an interest in the guide side of the business. Evelyn continues to provide family style meals, good homemade food, and lots of it! The family misses Amy (22), who has married and moved with her Navy husband to Virginia.
