Description
Jack Kerouac was always writing - poems, novels, letters, and the short, intense descriptions scribbled in small notebooks he carried during his travels, now published as Book of Sketches: 1952-54. In these, he was working not on writing but on language, practicing like a weightlifter to move words to his own aims.
Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" was written on a scroll that was nearly 35 meters long. It is a wandering narrative told in a continuous block of text and is a relic of a literary phenomenon. Kerouac's scroll is currently on a four-year national tour of museums and libraries.
"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life." Click here for more quotes.
