The Irish Descendants Newfoundland music juno award winners

Description

Their name speaks for itself. There are few places on earth with deeper Irish roots than The Irish Descendants home of Newfoundland. In fact if secret agents brought you there blind folded, once freed you would be sure to think you were in Ireland. The look, the smell, the way they talk, the local pub, it's all so Ireland. Since forming from two local bands in 1990, The Irish Descendants have had a wide impact on audiences and music lovers all around the world. The bands exquisitely produced, award-winning recordings, ranging dynamically from the most sensitive and touching ballads, to high energy toe tapping reels which along with their heartwarming and humorous live performances, have rewarded the group with a large and loyal fan base.

The Irish Descendants have performed religiously through out the U.S. and Canada. Included are prestigious venues: The Boston St. Patrick's Day Celebrations, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Symphony Orchestra, The Smithsonian in Washington and others. The Irish Descendants are also very much at home performing at major Celtic festivals including Cleveland, Chicago, Ontario and Boston. The group traveled to Ireland in 1994, where the Irish Press dubbed them "the lost Celtic tribe" coming from "the land the Irish forgot." In 1998, they traveled across the water again to perform in England at the International Festival of The Sea - but not before appearing in the theatrical stage production of Needfire. They were then quite pleased to be chosen as the official band for Newfoundland's 500th anniversary where they performed for European royalty and heads of state. All very heady stuff for lads on such humble beginnings.

The first album in 1991, Misty Morning Shore, presented an opportunity for the band to jump from pub circuit phenoms to radio stars and reach a much wider audience. That led to 1993's major label debut on Warner Music, Look To The Sea, was recorded in Toronto with Irish expatriate Derek Harrington. Delivering a force and fullness that made it easy to call their versions of songs the "definitive" ones; combined with the band's playfulness and each member's down-to-earth charm made for an irresistible package.
