The uniqueness of Ignite Portland is the challenge of a format that's something between a Powerpoint presentation and a speed-chess tournament – participants get 5 minutes to present 20 slides of 15 seconds each to discuss pretty much whatever they want. Presentations are picked on the merit of "how interesting they are" rather than other subjective criteria such as themes, and since there's no keynote, all presenters are equal.
Ignite Portland, the brainchild of the non-profit Legion of Tech, offers another semi-unique blush to the local tech landscape – they're free for presenters and attendees alike.

Blog
This blog has been used as the main page for the Ignite Portland event. In the vein of Ignite Seattle, Pecha Kucha, the Open Space movement, and lightning talks, Ignite Portland depends on interested parties to plan the curriculum of the event. The focus can literally be anything its attendees wish to talk about. Ignite was originally conceptualized as DemoCamp Portland.
