HTCFANS.COM - News and reviews on Windows Mobile phones from HTC., HTC's acquisition of Dopod is almost complete, with only the Government approval pending. The deal is valued at about US $150 million. The most interesting outcome of this deal is that HTC is cutting off its ties with its long time partners O2 and i-mate. O2 and i-mate have been selling numerous models of HTC phones under their brand name., The O2 Stealth, which we previewed earlier, is now offically available from O2 Asia. The phone has a sliding keypad, which is only numeric and not QWERTY. The other specifications are pretty impressive. The Stealth has the Intel XScale® PXA272 Processor running at 416 MHz along with 64 MB SD RAM. Has a miniSD card slot and Wireless b/g. Interestingly, it is only a Triband phone and it does not have EDGE. Comes with all the standard software that is part of Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone edition. O2 has a microsite for Stealth here. This phone is made by HTC's competitor, Gigabyte., Softbank Japan has rolled out the Softbank X01HT, which is a HTC Tytn based WM 5.0 phone that sport HSDPA for fast data transfer. HSDPA offers upto 1.8 Mbps download and upto 384 Kbps upload speeds which bring them on par with Wireline broadband speeds. The X01HT has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a QVGA screen., A bulky and awkward device, the JAQ no wonder gets only a 5.6/10 rating from CNET. CNET did not like the lack of Wi-Fi, lack of Camera and poor call quality. Add the hefty price tag and a clear failure emerges. The spacious keyboard and the Pocket PC OS (unlike Motorola Q, which is a WM Smartphone) are not enough to offset the shortcomings of this phone., Samsung is turning out to be a big and worthy competitor for HTC. While lesser known manufacturers are dishing out disappointing products like the i-mate JAQ (which is now popularly called as i-mate joke in the industry circles), Samsung is coming out with top class products like the Samsung i600. The yet to be released Samsung SGH-i760 joins the league of great Windows Mobile phones made available this year. mobilemania.sk has hit a jackpot with a bunch of high quality photographs of the i760., CNET UK has a sneak peek at the upcoming HTC P3600 phone. This cute phone reminds us of the vastly popular HTC magician phone of the yester years.
