Description
The Humane Society of Lewisville is a humane organization established in 1984. We serve pets and pet owners; our charter is to promote education, spay/neuter, and foster/adoptions services. Our nonprofit organization works to provide a very valuable set of services to Lewisville and the surrounding areas. These services are very comprehensive and consist of a strategy to help reduce animal overpopulation through a threefold approach.
Pets that are not spayed or neutered will eventually reproduce. Pet owners who are not educated on proper pet care have a higher probability of letting their pets roam free and reproduce at will. Pet owners who are not educated on proper pet care may have unrealistic expectations regarding their pets and intentionally release them or take them to a local shelter; the animal left unclaimed will be put to sleep.
Education - The HSL has been very visible in Lewisville and the surrounding areas, promoting education. Each year we sponsor hundreds of teachers through the Adopt-A-Teacher program. This wonderful curriculum focuses on primary education within the LISD area. Each teacher is sent material throughout the school year, which promotes proper pet care and helps establish this awareness at an early age. In addition to the Adopt-A-Teacher program, the HSL has numerous pet related documents and publishes a newsletter to our members - promoting better care through education.
