Hornet's Nest Ski Racing was organized in the late 80's by a group of ski racers that simply wanted more out of their ski racing experience here in the Southeast. By bringing together a handful of qualified racers the resulting consolidation of "race oriented" skiers made Hornet's Nest very much more competitive as a team at events that required specialized team structure.
Since then Hornet's Nest has evolved into a little bit more of a "regular" ski club but our emphasis is still on improved skiing for its members through racing. As a member of the Crescent Ski Council we compete mainly in that sanction for our regular race events.
An agreement with a local ski area has allowed us to train privately on racecourses similar to our regular competition courses. Some of our members have received voluminous, in-depth professional coaching and are prepared to share their knowledge of training, racing and ski tuning with the other members. This makes for inexpensive training and learning exposure that all of the members can take advantage of. Members can also receive specialized coaching by attending organized race clinics sponsored through Crescent Ski Council at local resorts and at major resorts out west.
