If you are familiar with the monolith (ml.org) before it went down, HLDNS is similar in nature but caters to the Hotline Server® administrator or similar server type primarily but will service anything that is capable of resolving a dns name. For example if you use timbuktu with some one on a dynamic ip the in the connect window you could use i.e. "JoeBlow.hldns.com" and it would resolve the dns name to an ip, static or dynamic. It even works well with Apple's own web sharing extension! You can register your ip with us and the use the service for personal web sharing if you wish! Host your own web page or email server. The possibilities are limitless! This can even be simply used as an alias to a static ip to make it easier to remember!

Basically, there are two ways it can work for you. Register with us and then either configure your Hotline Server® or download a small control panel and extension from us that runs in the background on your computer. This will let our DNS server automatically update your IP address everytime your connect to the internet or change your ip.

As long as you have Hotline Server® running or the client control panel and extension loaded, your computer will automatically report your IP address to us so our system will automatically register it in our database and continually redirect your traffic to you.
