Description
The interdisciplinary Special Research Area (Spezialforschungsbereich, SFB) HiMAT combines the approaches of the humanities and the sciences to gain holistic information on mining in the Tyrol and in the central Alpine area. Researchers from various disciplines investigate both the conditions for, and the consequences of mining on a timescale ranging from the Mesolithic up to Modern Times. Eight institutes of the University of Innsbruck are involved, as well as collaborators from the Universities of Basel, Frankfurt and Tübingen, as well as the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum.
