Ohio-West Virginia YMCA

Description

Excerpted from the website description:

The work of the Ohio-West Virginia YMCA extends back to 1867 in Ohio and 1909 in West Virginia. A pioneer in youth leadership development based on service-learning principles, this YMCA established local youth groups throughout both states beginning in the 1920's. We offer many youth programs as well as programming and facilities for adults. Our junior and senior high school programs are based on HI-Y and include our Model United Nations, Youth in Government, Youth Action Council, and Fall Conference programs. In the summer, our Camp Horseshoe facility is filled with youth participating in our residential programs - Adventure Camp, Leadership-Service Summits, Free Enterprise Camp, Youth Opportunity Camps. We also offer special programs which include Peer Conflict Mediator Training and a High-Low Ropes Challenge course; and, two special camps for children with cancer (WINACA camp) and children with hemophilia. Group and family programs are available for reunions, church activities, organization meetings, or outings with the family. We operate the YMCA Horseshoe Recreation Area adjacent to our Camp Horseshoe facility. There we offer tent, RV, and small trailer camping for families, friends, and youth groups. Our newest faciility is Cave Lake, in western Pike County, Ohio. Currently it operates as a family campground but we will use its natural setting to expand our succesful youth programs. The focus will be on civic leadership, the arts, entrepreneurship, stewardship and community building with a goal of creating better futures for all by strengthening youth, families, organizations and communities.
