In the UK, completed Herons are available in wood or GRP from a choice of builders, or the Heron may be home-built from a kit or from plans.
The Heron is an adopted class at sailing clubs up and down the country. The Heron Dinghy Class Association organises a full programme of regattas and open meetings throughout the sailing season.
The heron dinghy can be sailed, rowed and motored. For motoring you need about a 5hp outboard. You can also purchase a bimini to keep out the sun. Be careful, if there is a strong wind the bimini is best kept down. as a sailing craft it is s0econd to none. I have sailed in force 3 winds and the craft has performed very well. Also it is nearly impossible to sink.
