Description
Growing up in Korea as the youngest of seven sisters, my early life was full of visual and fashion stimulation. Korea has a long tradition in fiber and textile arts and Koreans also at that time were very intrigued with western modern culture and costume.
Because of these influences, I came to America and attended college at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I found friends and inspiration from many cultures. I learned that costume can be just as powerful an expressive medium as painting and sculpture and that one can actually combine these two media into Clothing as High Art.
My designs are often inspired by nature and begin as watercolor sketches and experiments in dye on fabric. These evolve into hand dye-painted fabrics which I cut, shape and sew and form into one of a kind or very limited edition garments. I personally do or directly oversee the dyeing and painting and processing of all my fabrics so I can create nearly infinite color subtleties.
