The summer of 2003 Danna Buerger, Stephanie Midthun, Karen Herscowitz and their husbands went on a Mission trip to Kisumu, Kenya to serve at Agape Children's Ministry, a home and school for street children. An American missionary, Darla Calhoun, founded Agape 10 years ago when she couldn't ignore the needs of the thousands of street kids in Kenya.
We fell in love with these former street boys at Agape, witnessing and experiencing God's transforming love in and through their lives. We also reached out to the children still on the streets in Kisumu and were overwhelmed by the number of them and their young ages. It is estimated that there are over 150 million street children in the world, and the numbers continue to grow every day, especially in AIDS-torn Africa. Our hearts were broken and stirred to continue to help Agape expand to be able to house more children from the streets of Kenya.
