This web site has been established to increase public awareness of hearing impairment. Ten per cent of the world's population suffer from hearing problems, yet only one out of five who would benefit from hearing aids actually use them.
On 26 April, 2001, hear-it was selected as the "best of health" site at the "International Web Page Awards" in San Jose, California, USA. The participants came from 22 different countries.
The web site has been established and is run by the organisation, 'Hear-it AISBL', which includes IFHOH (International Federation of the Hard Of Hearing), AEA (Association Européenne des Audioprothésistes), EHIMA (European Hearing Industry Manufacturers Association) - Knowles, Sonion and Gennum.
