Title

HealthVote.org - A Nonpartisan Election Resource for Health-Related Initiatives

Description

Each election year, the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) and the Center for Governmental Studies (CGS) work together to create a non-partisan, unbiased resource that voters and the media can use to assess for themselves the health-related initiatives destined for the ballot.

The project began last year, when HealthVote 2004 was launched in September 2004 to provide the public and press with impartial information about the five health-related propositions on California's November ballot. Voters had to make decisions about children's hospitals, mental health care, emergency services, stem cell research and health care insurance (Propositions 61, 63, 67, 71 and 72).

With so many important health care decisions to make during an unprecedented election year, CGS and CHCF sought to clarify the issues. We developed unbiased, non-partisan background information about each measure, including the proponents' and opponents' sources of campaign financing and their TV ad expenditures, in addition to an overview and analysis of California's ballot measure process. This year, we will do it again.
