The Hawthorne Police Department has been serving the City of Hawthorne since 1922, over 78 years of service. The Hawthorne Police Department consists of 96 sworn officers, 46 civilians, 6 part-time Reserve Officers and 10 explorers.
Chief of Police, Stephen Port, has been with the Hawthorne Police Department since December 1974. He has served in all positions from Patrol Officer to Captain. He was promoted to Chief of Police in July 1989, and also serves as Director of the L.A. County Regional Clearinghouse, and past Director of the L.A. Police Chiefs Association.
The mission of the Hawthorne Police Department is to provide a safe and secure community for its citizens while at the same time promoting a high degree of professionalism and respect for human dignity. (created April 6, 1989)
