- From as early as I can remember, I would go to sleep to the whirring sound of a sewing machine. My mother can make almost anything from beautiful silk flowers to a catwalk-inspired dress or tailored suit. I grew up in the Highlands of Scotland with a slightly mixed culture as my mother is from Taiwan and a strong oriental influence was felt in our home. I loved dressing up in a combination of my mother’s clothes and sewing offcuts, but as a child, my main creative outlet was music. And so I grew up playing clarinet, piano and percussion in bands and orchestras which took up most of my spare time.
