This is how it all started - in 1946 in Blackfriars Road Portsmouth , Arthur and Joan Hasker opened their first shop, Blackfriars Bazaar . It had only been a year since the Second World War had finished, so they could only sell whatever they could get their hands on.
In the early 1960's, Arthur and Joan had a shop in Church Road , selling hardware supplied from John Palmer Ltd, who are still about today supplying Haskers with floorcoverings. In fact, it was John Palmer Ltd who supplied Arthur with his first pieces of carpet - in a time where floorcovering was becoming more and more popular, it was perfect timing for them. They opened up a market stall in Charlotte Street to sell both small and large remnants.
From there, Arthur and Joan opened two stores - one in Somers Road the another in Lake Road selling floorcoverings only. At this point, their sons Terry and Ron left school and decided to work for their parents selling floorcoverings to the public.
