Description

Robert Trent Jones has designed or re-designed over 500 golf courses in 35 countries. He has left his mark on some of the world's most famous courses. Dorado Beach, The Dunes, Peachtree, Firestone, Oak Hill, and Augusta National. The world's greatest golfers of all time have slugged it out on a Robert Trent Jones course more than once. The U.S. Open, The Ryder Cup and The Masters are just a few of the many classics played on a Robert Trent Jones designed golf course.

Born in 1906 in Ince, England, he came to East Rochester, New York in 1911. While attending Cornell University Jones became the first person to study expressly for a career as a golf course designer. He set his own curriculum, drawing upon courses in landscape architecture, agronomy, horticulture, hydraulics, surveying, public speaking and economics. Jones literally invented the profession of modern Golf Course Design.

After finishing Cornell Jones began a partnership with Canadian course architect Stanley Thompson which lasted until 1938. In 1938 Jones began 6 W.P.A. projects, one of which was the Hancock Golf Course. Ground for Hancock was broken in March of 1941.
