Gustavo Arango was born in Cali, Colombia and raised in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. By the age of 18, he was already designing under his own label, attending to the most demanding clientele and boutiques in the world. In 1989, his passion for design, fashion, color, and a constant drive to create, took him to one of the most competitive and cosmopolitan cities in the world, New York. An outstanding student at F.I.T., he excelled from the start; and obtained his first job in New York as a fashion designer for Pierre Balmain in 1991. In 1994, Arango launched his signature line Gustavo Arango, and his intricate tailoring skills and attention to detail caught the eye of Bill Blass, for which he currently designs an exclusive suit collection sold in major department stores. International magazine publishers have also sought his views, and his editorials have been seen in Glamour, Marie Claire, Caras, WWD, W Magazine, Latina, Details, DeModa, Hamptons Magazine, Tearsheet, Chicago Social and Imagen. Arango’s fashions cater to the exclusive and discriminating, which seek a sexy and special garment crafted with a flair for individuality and style. A well-traveled connoisseur of the finest European textile mills, he continuously searches for luxury; capturing the core essence of young, modern and chic elements, allowing his collection entrée into prestigious retail stores. Gustavo Arango fashions are sold worldwide to retailers including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Mark Shale Chicago/Atlanta. His flagship store in Puerto Rico, is a new and refreshing example of contemporary retail design. As a young designer on the move, Gustavo Arango continues to distort the line between couture and ready to wear, gracing some of the most beautiful women in the world with a combination of the exotic beauty of Puerto Rico and the sleek sensuality of New York.
