Whatever else can be said about the internet, whether in relation to the ever elusive goal of "e-this" or "e-that", or the tragedy of the literally billions of dollars that were lost when the 'bubble' burst, there has never in the history of man been a medium of communication that can even remotely compare when it comes to the transfer of vital information. It can open doors that weren't even conceived of just 10 or 20 years ago. It can provide a person in Hong Kong with access to the exact same information as a person in Dallas; in exactly the same format at exactly the same instant. Information that was once limited to a half a sheet of paper and distributed to 10 or 20 thousand fixed people or organizations can now be the equivalent of hundreds or even thousands of pages and reach literally millions of people; all while retaining the possibility of one on one communications and relationship building. And all of this and more can be done for but a small fraction of the cost of anything ever before brought to bear. If nothing else, that is the power of the internet today.
And the equipment market is the one part of our industry that has the most potential to take advantage of the internet. Because the internet is the perfect medium for facilitating the transfer of information from one person to another, and equipment sales is the one part of our market that is almost completely informational based, they are almost a perfect match.
That being said, I've got to tell you I am constantly amazed at the absolutely dismal representation of the graphic arts equipment industry on the Internet!
