- ur story starts in our kitchen, where all scrumptious stories usually begin. An overabundance of herbs had us dicing, slicing, and drying herbs, and searching for new recipes to use up our bountiful harvest. Thus our first herbal tea baths and herbal soaps were created, sampled and shared. The real beginning of our story, however, dates back to 1916 when Grandpa Charlie Niemela moved his family from Michigan to a farm in Minnesota, where he and his wife Sophia raised their nine children. In 1957 the youngest son, Paul, bought the farm, where he and his wife Louise raised their ten children with country sunshine, hard work, love, music, and faith. Their oldest son, Mike, married Cheryl, the girl from across the field, and in 1981 they moved to the farm to continue the legacy with their growing family. Our farm has embraced four generations of family, giving its gifts of harvests, lessons of toil, acres of woodlands and pastures for playgrounds, as well as priceless memories to all who have found sanctuary here. In 2005 our family farm became certified organic.
