Description
The Province of Golden Rivers began way back in the formative years of the West Kingdom (and indeed the S.C.A.!) in the early 1970’s, first as the Province of Lydde, then becoming the Shire of Golden Rivers around 1972, and then becoming the Barony of Golden Rivers in 1974, which it remained for several years until finally settling forever as a Province (around late 1978?).
Golden Rivers apparently grew quickly, eventually spawning other branches such the neighbouring Shires of Windy Meads, Betony Woods and Danegeld Tor. Golden Rivers, whatever form it has taken, has always been highly visible in the West Kingdom and we have a noble tradition of heavy participance and activity. We carry this on to the present day, holding several events a year as well as hosting both Kingdom and Principality events within our borders.
There has been a tradition for many years that we have a championship every February to find the Lord and Lady of Golden Rivers. For the next year, they are given regalia to wear, sit at high table at our events, and given a position of honor until the time comes to find their successors the following February. We also have a Provincial award, the Order of the Golden Salmon, given for service to the Province. The award is generally given out at the Anniversary Banquet every November, but sometimes at other Provincial events as well.
