Title

Goblin Design - Visions in art and design of Silas Toball

Description

Silas established a close relationship to the mystical in the early days of his childhood, often neglecting comics, cartoons and popular culture in favor of his uncle’s attic, which contained old books illustrated by Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac and John Bauer. A passion for all things fantastic and a desire to honor these early influences led him to study art and graphic design in school, finishing with a degree in Graphic Design in Karlsruhe Germany in 1995. The next year he founded Goblin Design and worked for clients in the entertainment, software and automobile industries, including a prestigious engagement with Volkswagen.

In 2001 Silas moved to the United States to pursue both design and painting opportunities in a climate that would allow for more of his artistic expression. Soon after establishing himself in the USA, Silas met Angi Sullins, of Duirwaigh Gallery and the two joined forces. Together, they founded Duirwaigh Publishing, and merged the creative life force of Goblin Design and Duirwaigh, Inc. into an inspirational multimedia agency.

Silas is a romantic, and draws his inspiration from many sources. Medieval illuminated books as well as gothic architecture leave their imprint on his works. The art nouveau movement and the preraphaelite masters have greatly influenced his style.
