History

Planting this garden is the beginning of a legacy. The act of gardening is a leap of faith. Every time you dig a hole in the earth and nestle a plant into the welcoming soil, you create a pact with the future!

Founder of Glen Echo Garden

The land of Glen Echo Garden was previously owned by Glen Echo Coal mine, followed by a shingle mill, and then a lumber company. The latter explains the various large stumps throughout the garden today.

Dick Bosch, the founder of Glen Echo Garden, purchased the land in 1971 and began creating the garden with friends and family, planting shrubs, trees and plants.

The garden opened to the public on July 17, 2007 and continues to grow.
