Gay Gotham Chorus, New York City: Welcome!

Description

Founded in 1993, the GAY GOTHAM CHORUS, New York City’s only gay men’s choral ensemble dedicated to the performance of classical music, is celebrating its 13th season of concerts. The 2002-2003 season also included a staged production of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana,” co-produced with the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, as well as a concert of British music featuring a performance of Vaughan William’s “Five Mystical Songs” with special guests the Avalon String Quartet and bass-baritone Jason Grant.

The Chorus also gave the World Premiere of electro-acoustic composer Amnon Wolman’s evening-length work “Cruising Prohibited When Lights Flashing” on the North River concert series at Greenwich House Music School.

Highlights of recent seasons include a gala 10th Anniversary concert featuring world premieres of works by 2004 Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec and Adam Silverman, and performances including Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody with opera star Stephanie Blythe and the Cosmopolitan Symphony Orchestra, Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in D minor with the Musica Bella Orchestra of New York, the World Premiere of Stefan Weisman’s David and Jonathan, commissioned by the GGC for men’s chorus and orchestra and the World Premiere of Stephen Paulus’ Sweet Soul for mezzo-soprano and men’s chorus with opera star Margaret Lattimore.
