well from what i know the garda siochana came into existence in 1922 the royal irish constabulary preceded th garda siochana which was an armed police force it was disbanded when the foundation of the state came into existance commonly known then as the free state there was also the metropolitan police based in dublin which was a civic inarmed police force and was disbanded in 1925 templemore was a former british army barracks where the royal dublin fusilers used to train this barracks if memory serves me was built in 1809 or some time in the early 1800,s the gardai used to train in the phoenix park or dublin and were move by train to ther new training depot in 1963 there training was 18 weeks updated to 22 weeks in the 1970,s and in 1989 don't quote me now the training was updated to 2 years as there wer changes in society and obviously they needed to be educated to deal with these changes on how to treat joe public with particular emphases on social studies and i hope for the foreseeable future they concentrate on this and understand why people do what they do common law was developed dwn throught the centuries that's how the courts system came about before that it was brehon law. thanks for leting me have my 2 pence worth and i wish you and every one involed with this site the very best of luck .
