Gamers Paradise operates retail centers throughout Illinois with future growth considerations on a national basis. Since 1979, Gamers Paradise has offered a uniquely different shopping experience, enticing customers with our wide array of games, gifts, novelties, as well as a variety of other items.
It all began in October of 1979, when Philip Schwartzer saw a need in the marketplace and parlayed his passion for gaming into a retail business by selling board games, backgammon, chess and Dungeons & Dragons out of a small 500 square foot store front. The merchandise sold out during that first holiday season, but the idea remained and soon the little store in the Century Mall was an important stop for gamers and locals alike. From this small, but risky endeavor, Gamers Paradise was born and over the years has been nurtured and guided to grow into the business it is today.
Other retailers have tried to imitate Gamers, but they've been unable to capture our range of merchandise or our fun. From the beginning, major turning points of the company have always been based on recognizing and reacting to changing needs in the consumer market place. For example, in the early years, Gamers was purely a gaming store, but we realized we needed to change with the times. We rented video movies before there was Blockbuster, we carried music CD's when they first became available and we were one of the first retailers to demo video games. We bring to our customers an assortment that's always changing, always different, and our customers know to expect the unexpected and they keep coming back.
