As I am the organiser of all Funafrica events as well as the webmaster of this site, it makes more sense to write this in the first person.
My involvement with cycling stems from being the son of Cyril "Go"Geoghegan. Cycling was not just a sport to my father, it was a life long passion. The only time he was not involved with the sport was whilst he was on active service during the second world war. Before that he was a multiple national champion and record holder, who carried on afterwards as an official, administrator, race official etc etc. Unlike today, there was no pay involved.....he did it because he truly loved the sport and its participants. It is extremely fitting that the cycle stadium in Durban bears his name.
Some of this passion must have rubbed off on me, as I spent my youth as a wannabe winner of "Le Tour", but achieving only moderate success. At age 40, I returned to the sport and raced with the vets for ten years as well as serving a 3 year term as Natal Cycling Union president. It was during this period that I got involved with the "Gabran".
