Fred Sherwood & Sons Transport began business life as a small farming family in the village of Long Whatton, north Leicestershire in the late 1920’s. Headed by Fred Sherwood and his wife Frances, they worked the farm and sold their produce in the local markets. By 1940 they had two sons, George and Alan. The family continued to farm through the war and on into the next decade. Around 1950, Fred decided to buy a Bedford 5 ton truck in order to deliver his own produce.
