Description

About First Parish Brewster

First Parish Brewster is an historic church with a progressive spirit. It was founded in 1700 as a Pilgrim Church, making it one of the oldest churches in North America. It becarne Unitarian in the 1830's. During the 1800's it became known as "The Church of the Sea Captains" because so many clipper ship captains and their families worshipped here. First Parish Brewster became a Unitarian-Universalist Church in 1961 when the two denominations merged.

Today our motto could well be "Diversity with Unity." We are united by our religious values: love, truth, service to others, compassion, peace, justice, reverence for life. Each person is encouraged to have a deep relationship with the Sacred. We are diverse in many ways: ages, life styles, multi-faceted theologies. We have Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Humanists, Hindus, Pagans and others worshipping together.

First Parish Brewster has a wide range of programming: worship services, children and youth ministries, social justice projects, adult classes, workshops and support groups, pastoral care, a sense of vital community.
