"Each player is represented with a fairly accurate representation of their skills whether it's a RB who is good when the defense isn't expecting a run but won't have much success at all against a defense focusing against the run (Brian Westbrook as one example), a RB who can pound it even when the defense is expecting the run (LaDainian Tomlinson among many other bigtime RB's), an offensive lineman who is good at pass blocking but poor at run blocking or vice-versa, a linebacker who isn't that strong against the pass but is a great pass rusher, a shutdown CB or a poor CB, a WR who is great deep but not so great on shorter passes or vice-versa, a QB who is good on dink passes but without a very strong arm for long passes (Pennington and Griese as examples), etc.etc.etc. Also, teams are represented well so you might want to pass the ball more against SD's tough run defense as long as your opponent doesn't focus too much on trying to stop the run, against Carolina with all their RB injuries you might not worry much about stopping their running game, etc.
