Fodor's Travel Guides | Plan Your Trip Online
Description
Excerpted from the website:
- Founder Eugene Fodor pioneered the concept of the modern guidebook in 1936, when he created a new travel guide that travelers found more inspiring than the existing collections of facts and figures other guidebooks offered. He wrote On the Continent--The Entertaining Travel Annual, a guide to Europe which made three important innovations: it went beyond reporting on the sights and for the first time included information about Europe's culture and people. Second, Fodor included practical information for the modern traveler, such as what size tip to leave at a Viennese café. Third, On the Continent was an annual guide, so that Fodor's readers would have the most current information.
