Description
I started shoeing horses in the early 1960's. I completed Cal-Poly's horseshoeing school in 1964 under Ralph Hoover, then continued shoeing to pay for college. My education was interupted by a stint in Viet Nam, after which I went back to school and received my bachelor's degree in animal husbandry from Fresno State University.
Even with a degree, horseshoeing seemed to be my calling, and I continued working on pleasure, gaited, performance, and racehorses. In 1975, I joined the International Union of Journeymen Horseshoers and began working at the Quarterhorse meet at Bay Meadows race track. Then I moved on to Golden Gate Fields to shoe Thoroughbreds. For brief times I worked other tracks and also shod hunters, jumpers, and walking horses. I started experimenting and building tools in the mid 70's as a hobby. I often used tools I'd built in my own shoeing business, and occasionally, I built some for other shoers.
In 1992, I was forced to retire from shoeing as a result of a knee injury. I then decided to turn my hobby into a new business, and began designing and building tools in my shop at home. With more than 35 years of experience, I know what farriers look for in a tool, and I try to provide those qualities for an affordable price. In addition to the line of tools I currently offer, I will work with you to build any custom tool(s) you want. All tools are made of 1040 high carbon tool steel, individually hand-crafted, and backed by a complete guarantee. If you're not fully satisfied, just return the tools for a full refund. I hope you'll give them a try.
