Description

About Us

The eXile is a Moscow, Russia-based English-language bi-weekly newspaper that was launched in 1997 by American journalist Mark Ames. He was joined soon after by Matt Taibbi. The newspaper quickly gained fame and notoriety, including a 4-page spread in Rolling Stone, a 1-hour CNN documentary, and various other media, which the eXile foolishly failed to properly exploit.

In 1999, the authors released a book, The eXile: Sex, Drugs, and Libel in the New Russia telling the story of the newspaper and the late-Yeltsin era that spawned it. Edward Limonov, the avant-garde writer and radical politician, wrote the forward for the book, and has been a regular contributor (when he's not serving time in jail). Good Machine, which produces the films of Todd Solondz and Ang Lee, bought the rights to the eXile story and is currently developing a feature movie.

The website was launched in early 1998, and since then has grown to over 120,000 regular readers worldwide. However, we are still butt-poor and considering ways of earning some kopeks off of our popularity. Any suggestions?
