The ETA recognises that far too many college and university students fail (or fail to reach their full potential) because they lack fundamental study skills and examination techniques. This has been confirmed by independent studies (see, eg, Sunday Times (England) of April 1995). Many students who are considered below average by traditional assessment methods in fact under achieve as they lack the necessary skills to become excellent achievers.
Our friends from Commerce & Industry have also expressed an interest in skills and techniques which would help them and their colleagues make the most of training. Individuals are keen on self-development and self-learning, especially as they don't always have the time to take formal training or to attend classes. The educational sector and commerce and industry are increasingly finding that to derive maximum benefit, they have to form partnerships with each other. The ETA is an example of such a natural partnership.
