Eve was raised in Kansas City, Missouri in an abusive, alcoholic home. Her father was a raging alcoholic who brutally beat her mother and terrorized her, along with her brothers and sisters. "Back in those days unlike today, poor uneducated women with children had little or no recourse for leaving a violent husband. My mother didn't have all the resources and help that is available to women today."
She believes it is only by God's Grace that no one died in their house on Michigan Street in Kansas City. The severe beatings, daily verbal abuse and living in constant fear and shame tore away at Eve's self-esteem and belief in herself. Her periods of depression began in her early teens. Through all the family's difficulties, a gift Eve treasures is that her mother Dorothy passed on to her the resolve to never give up.
