General Information About the EVA Project
A good way to see the past is to look at the photograph collection of a public archive. The holdings of public archives contain millions of historical photographs ready to be discovered by the public.
The project European Visual Archive (EVA) developped activities facilitating acces to the photograph collection of public archives. In order to support EVA in a market, partners from the original EVA project, together with new partners submitted succesfully a proposal to the EC: EVAMP, European Visual Archives Market validation Project.
The EVAMP project has to create a situation in which any historical collection is very well informed about all alternatives to make their image collections digitally available. The project wishes to lower the entry barriers and risks for image owners, associated with digitisation projects: institutions have the required expertise to make the functional and technical choices for their digitisation programme. Moreover, the cost of a basic digitisation programme can, at least partly, be covered by the revenues from sales of reproductions.
