For thirty-years Ethan Russell has made a career exploring new perspectives through media. After his beginning work as a photographer, he became one of the pioneers of music video, directing films with Rickie Lee Jones and Emmylou Harris several years before the advent of MTV. His videos also include work with Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, kd lang, John Lennon, and others. In 1983, he added interactive media to his mix of creative platforms, working as a producer on IBM's landmark educational program "Columbus." From 1984-85, Ethan wrote his first book, "Dear Mr.,Fantasy, "a memoir and collection of his photographs. Today Ethan produces work in all these areas. He is working on an exclusive book about the historic Rolling Stones 1969 Tour of America; he consults on interactivity and broadband design, and he is preparing the first ever public exhibition of his photography.
"In 1968 Ethan Russell was a young American with a Nikon camera living in London and hoping to become a writer. His hobby was photography. A few years later he was one of the foremost rock photographers in the world. From his early, almost accidental, photo sessions with John Lennon and Mick Jagger he went on to photograph the legendary Rolling Stones' "Rock n Roll Circus" and the single time that John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards played in the first "supergroup." He documented the Beatles "Let It Be' from start to finish. He leapfrogged America with the Stones on the ill-starred Altamont tour of 1969 and again on the celebrity studded 1972 tour.
