The idea to create a European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology was first conceived in Helsinki, where Professor R.G. Edwards, from Cambridge University, and Dr. J. Cohen, from Paris, consulted their colleagues about the need to convene and discuss the possible foundation of a society that would stimulate the study and research in the field of reproductive medicine and science. Both the idea to establish such a society and the outcome of their meetings proved to be successful in many ways.
