Once upon a time, in the "good old days", as some like to call them, synthesizer interfaces were covered with knobs and sliders. If you wanted to tweak your LFO rate, you grabbed a knob. If your bandpass filter was buggin’ you, you grabbed a knob. Then came the "digitally-controlled years": knobs and sliders were traded in for LCD screens and menus. Gone was the great musical interface of the potentiometer. And oh, how we missed it! Thankfully, within in the last few years, knobs have begun to reappear on new synthesizers.
But what about all your other menu-driven and software synthesizers? Wouldn’t it be cool if there were some way to use knobs to tweak them in real time? The chaps at Encore Electronics thought so, and they have presented us with The Knobby.
