Description
Everything that can be said about Emmanuel has an opposite that is also true. We are called to discern God's presence in the great and small, in success and failure, in joy and in sorrow. God works in paradox, and we join God there.
As an Episcopal Church, our tradition is mostly contained in The Book of Common Prayer. In worship, we are free to laugh, cry, be silent - in a word - to be real. On the Sunday closest to St. Francis Day (October 4), a Service of Blessing of the Animals is held and our sanctuary is filled with dogs and cats, even hedgehogs.
We are a church that is rich in symbols. We use oil, water, bread, wine, ashes, palms, Baptismal and Easter candles, Advent Wreath, vestments, ancient chants, piano, organ, flute, and trumpet to offer praise to God.
