All aboard for a dream wedding on a yacht
In 1993, a family of boat lovers purchased the classic 1929 fantail yacht Electra to host special events, weddings and corporate parties at sea.
The Newport Beach, California business has grown into one of the biggest wedding venues in Orange County. Electra Cruises hosts 600 to 700 weddings per year, and employs 60 people.
Since buying the yacht Electra, Electra Cruises has acquired four more. Its yacht fleet ranges from the classic to super-luxurious, with capacity up to 350 people.
An Electra Cruises yacht event takes guests on a 26-mile turn through Newport Harbor, day or night.
Couples choose Electra Cruises for the ease of working with an all-inclusive venue, as much as for the romantic wedding location, says general manager Jason Goodman.
All-inclusive wedding packages are an economical way to host a high-end yacht event. The Electra can host a yacht wedding for 100 guests for between $8,000 and $9,000.
Electra Cruises' exclusive vendors keep rates affordable because they don't have high overhead costs, says Goodman. Electra Cruises staff are practiced at producing well-run, smooth wedding, reception or other event.
"When you get vendors who've never met, at a location they've never been, the lack of practice is what really can hurt the event," says Goodman.
Couples can choose to bring their own wedding vendors aboard the yacht for special needs.

Electra Cruises is a full-service event company. Electra provides everything from invitations to flowers to an officiant for a complete, custom dream yacht wedding.
Food is what really sets Electra apart from other yacht wedding venues. Electra's chef prepares all food onboard the yacht. Couples can offer wedding guests a customized sit-down dinner aboard the yacht. Or they can choose any theme imaginable for their yacht buffet, from "New York Deli" to "Under the Tuscan Sun."
An Electra Cruises wedding yacht typically cruises Newport Harbor for four hours while the happy couple says their "I do's" and guests dine, drink and dance.
