London Edwardians Hockey Club - Welcome to the Eds' site

Description

Men's league games commenced on Saturday 1st October. Results have been mixed to date, with only the men's 1st XI registering a win - but performances from all three teams suggest there should be plenty more victories to come. Contact Tim.P or Skills for more info on fixtures and training.

The ladies' 2nd XI played a friendly against Cranleigh Ladies 1st XI who are in the division above. It was a hard fought game and after being down 3-2 at half time, we won 5-4. Man of the match was won by Becky who put in a stirling performace up at the front, but a big well done to everyone who played as it was fantastic team performance.

Men's 1st XI v. Epsom, Saturday 8th Oct. Epsom 2, Eds 1. The 1st XI were expecting a tough game from an Epsom side who consistently finish amongst the top teams in the league and who scored double figures in this fixture last season. The game didn't start well for the Eds who conceded a classy goal on the break within the first two minutes. This proved to be a wake up call for the Eds who proceeded to dominate much of the first half in a fast flowing game. Epsom were always dangerous on the fast counter attack and succeeded in winning a couple of short corners. They scored a highly controversial goal from one of these corners with the first shot at goal, appearing to be well above the backboard, deflected into the goal by Seymour. The umpire allowed the goal and the Eds momentarily lost their heads with Seymour in particular throwing an especially large teddy out of his pram! The Eds rallied in the second half, soaked up all of Epsom's pressure and counter attacked strongly themselves. Unfortunately, the barn door proved particularly hard to hit, with several chances going begging. Pete Long eventually found the net with a couple of minutes to go, but it was too little too late. Nil points gained but an encouraging performance to build on for next week. Russ Pirie won the Platoon award for a particualrly spectacular crumble to the floor after receiving several lethal strikes to the head. Spencer MacDonald received a yellow card for trying to trip up the opposing centre forward when he realised he couldn't catch up with him, because he was simply too fast for a 31 year old. Maybe fair enough, but the centre forward was 35 himself and 16 stone!
