Joe Daly and Dick Linford founded ECHO in 1971. Since then, we have become the longest lasting rafting partnership in the country, and are often affectionately referred to as the "Dick & Joe Show."
We were high school teachers that discovered rafting. We taught English and Social Studies by day and ran ECHO evenings, weekends, and summers. Our homes were our offices and our garages were our warehouses. In those days, we were on the cutting edge of a new adventure, and only the heartiest of souls came on our trips.
ECHO grew steadily. By the early 1980's we were offering trips on nineteen stretches of river in five states and two countries. We had become managers of a sprawling business and were no longer spending enough time on rivers. So we chose our favorite rivers, focused our efforts into running high quality trips and put ourselves back on the water.
