Title

eat-halal.com - trying to help muslims eat halal

Description

In 1995, a few concerned Muslims started contacting food manufacturers to collect information on various food products. Once the information was collected, religious scholars were contacted and it was then decided if the products in question were Halal or Haram. These very small group called themselves I.H.F.M. Canada (Islamic Halal Food Monitor of Canada). The ultimate goal was to become a non-profit, charitable organization. I.H.F.M. Canada's objective was to find and validate the ingredients of food products according to the Islamic Jurisprudence, and to remind the general Muslim public about the importance of a halal diet.

After the creation of the first I.H.F.M. Canada web site in 1998, it became pretty evident that there was a need for a web site where people could get updated information on food products and ingredients, and ask questions alike. With that in mind, eat-halal.com was created.

It took long hours of work and careful planning, but by the Grace of Allah, the site was launched on Eid-ul-Fitr 1420 (January 8, 2000). eat-halal.com became the first interactive Halal/Haram food info site on the Internet. People from all over the world started visiting the site. In fact, the first e-mail sent to eat-halal.com was from Singapore.
