Description
Marshall Mar was born in Vancouver in 1948. His parents owned and operated a fine jewelry store in Vancouver's Chinatown. This is where Marshall got his first taste of his future career.
Marshall went to Pforzheim, Germany in 1967 to 1968 to study gold smithing. On his return to Canada he and a group of other artisans opened a shop in Vancouver's not yet trendy Gastown. They went by the name of the "Banana Brothers". As rents started to rise, the group went on their own merry ways, but still remain good friends.
As well as designing jewelry, Marshall had been developing designs to customize Harley Davidson motorcycles. Most of these pieces were made in bronze and were "limited editions" or "one of a kind" pieces with high price tags. Marshall wanted to produce high quality reproductions of his designs in a more affordable method, this is where the pewter reproductions came in.
