Description

Excerpted from the website description:

Hearing loss leads to communication problems, social isolation and may cause chronic depression. Conductive hearing loss can originate from cerumen in the ear canal or it can come from a perforated ear drum, which could be fixed with a tympanoplasty. Tympanic sclerosis is a condition where calcification of the tympanic membrane has led to problems with hearing. Otosclerosis is a genetic condition where the stapes is attaached to the ear drum. Cholesteatoma is another condition that can lead to problems hearing. Various tests help the ENT specialist with the diagnosis such as audiometry, which is recorded as an audiogram. Other tests are speech discrimination, tympanometry etc. These would all be required prior to deciding whether a patient would benefit from a cochlear implant.
