Our History Thanks to the encouragement of Worth Lutz, a small group of clergy and laity met in the Spring of 1985 to discuss the development of a Habitat affiliate in Durham, and by the Fall, it was a reality. On October 24, 1985, Durham County Habitat for Humanity came into being, and on the Saturday before Christmas of 1987, the first Durham Habitat homeowners moved into their new home.
